Did Christ have faith?

I do believe that Christ had faith.

My position is that the phrase "faith of Christ" is referring to Christ's faith. There are dozens of verses that say that Christ is "faithful", both in the Old Testament and in the New. When the Bible says that Christ is "faithful", I take that to mean He always keeps His word. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 and 2 Timothy 2:13 state how He is faithful to His promise of eternal security for  the members of the Body of Christ. When Christ is said to be "faithful" it means that He is true to accomplish His word.

Faith itself is believing the word of God (Rom. 10:17) and it is clear that Christ did that (Matt. 4:3-4). Christ did need faith, without it He could not have pleased the Father and He would not have been displaying the fruits of the Spirit.
John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith," (Gal. 5:22)
The Father said "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matt. 3:17) and the Bible says "without faith it is impossible to please him" (Heb. 11:6).

Christ providing eternal life for all those who believe (by the cross) was promised before the world began, it was the word of God, His eternal purpose. However, man did not have access to that eternal purpose until Christ came to earth and obeyed the word being faithful to the promise of the Godhead.

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Hebrews 5:
[8] Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
[9] And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him
;

Ephesians 3:11-12 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

The Godhead predetermined that Christ would go to the cross in eternity past (Acts 2:23, Titus 1:2) and Christ came to earth and was faithful to the promise. He is said to have obeyed and been made perfect. He "became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Phil. 2:8). He lived a completely sinless life in constant faithfulness to the Father, enduring to the end so that we could be saved. [Dispensational side note: The believers in Daniel's 70th Week are going to have to have that same enduring obedience unto death, which is why they are told to "keep the faith of Jesus" (Rev. 14:11-12).]

Christ was faithful unto death so that we would not have to be. Once we put our faith in Christ, His faith is what keeps us justified before God since we are members of His body, even if we were to stop believing.

2 Timothy 2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

In other dispensations God justified a man on the basis of man's faith. Man's faith is weak and wavering (Heb. 10:23, 38), which is why they had to endure to the end and prove their faith by their works (Jam. 2:14-26, Matt. 24:13-14). However, Christ's faith has been proven and is already perfect (Heb. 5:8-9, Phil. 2:8). We do not have to make our faith perfect by our works under Grace because we are in the Body of Christ and are justified by His already perfect faith when we believe on Him (Rom. 3:22, Gal. 2:16-20, 3:22-25, Phil. 3:9). After we believe on Christ, it is not our faithfulness to Him that keeps us saved, it is His faithfulness to us.

Questions for "sinner's prayer" Baptists

1.) Is salvation by faith alone, prayer alone, or faith plus prayer?

2.) Does someone who trusts Christ get saved instantaneously and eternally (Eph. 1:13-14) or does this occur when someone repeats the sinner's prayer?

3.) Does the Bible ever record anyone saying the "sinner's prayer"?

4.) Why are there different versions of the "sinner's prayer" out there? Shouldn't receiving Christ be a standard thing laid out in the Bible? Is there more than one way to get saved in the present dispensation?

5.) Since there is no record of the "sinner's prayer" in the Bible, why should we give people a prayer to say in order to get saved?

6.) Do you receive Christ by faith or by prayer? (John 1:12-13)

7.) At what point does God save the sinner? When he starts saying the prayer, half way through the prayer, or when the person says "Amen"?

8.) Some "gospel" tracts say at the end to "bow your head and say this prayer". Does someone have to bow their head to be saved? Isn't that a work?

9.) Is prayer a work that someone strives and perseveres in? (Col. 4:12, Rom. 15:30, Eph. 6:18)

10.) Does someone have to confess before men to be saved?

11.) Does someone have to walk down the church, kneel at the platform, and then pray in order to be saved?

12.) Why do you have "altar calls"? Are those in the Bible? Can't someone get saved anywhere if they trust Christ?

13.) Is prayer something that people "offer" God? (Heb. 5:7)

14.) What does "praying through" mean?

15.) Is the record of the Pharisee and the publican a gospel passage or is it a parable illustrating that you should not trust in yourself? (Luke 18:9-14)

16.) Do lost people have access to God by the Spirit just like saved people do? (Eph. 2:18, 6:18, Rom. 8:15-16, Gal. 4:6)

17.) Does God hear the prayers of the lost? (Isa. 59:1-2, Ps. 34:15-16, Matt. 7:21, John 9:31, 1 Pet. 3:12, Prov. 15:29, 28:9)

18.) Does God want lost people talking or stopping their mouths? (Rom. 3:19)

19.) Does God know the heart of man, or does He need us to testify of ourselves? (John 2:24-25)

20.) Should the "sinner's prayer" be addressed to the Father or the Son? I have seen tracts that differ on this.

21.) Why do you tell people to "repeat this prayer after me"? I thought that Christ was the only Mediator between God and men. (1 Tim. 2:5)

22.) Does someone receive salvation and righteousness when they believe the gospel of Christ? (Rom. 1:16-17)

23.) Do you have to ask for a gift, or is it given to those who receive it? (Rom. 5:15-18, 6:23, 2 Cor. 9:15, John 1:12-13)

24.) Prayer is a help to other believers and yourself (2 Cor. 1:11), does God need you to help Him save you?

Time For "Truth" not very honest

"The idea behind this is that ‘prayer’ is a ‘work’, & you’re not saved by ‘works’ (Eph 2v8+9). These HERETICS state that all you need to do to get saved is ‘assent’ (the expression of approval or agreement) to the fact that Christ died for you & ‘THANK God’ for having already forgiven your sins. Of course there are all kinds of things wrong with that erroneous teaching; not the least of which is that giving thanks to God for having already saved you IS A PRAYER, therefore a ‘work’ in their eyes! (See the hypocrisy!)" [TfT News Issue 77 http://www.timefortruth.co.uk/content/pages/documents/1454797861.pdf ]

John Davis failed to supply a quote from me where I said any of those things. In fact, he did not quote me in the entire article.

John Davis knows 100% what I believe about salvation, that it is by faith alone in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Anyone who stops trusting their own righteousness and puts their faith in Christ and His shed blood is instantaneously and eternally saved from sin (Rom. 3:19-27, 4:1-5, 5:1, 10:1-4, Eph. 1:13). Contrary to what John Davis accused me of, I have said many times that believing in Christ as a mentally assented fact will not save you, only a heart belief in the sacrificial work of Christ will. Before I got saved I believed in Christ because my parents always told me about Him and I believed them, but that did not save me. I did not get saved until I heard the gospel of Christ from the word of God, knowing that I was dead in my sins and then trusting Christ's shed blood (Rom. 3:21-26).

But John Davis knew that already, he has apparently read my testimony and what I believe about salvation. He purposefully lied about what I believed because he did not want to deal with the facts...that I believe the Bible teaches salvation is by faith alone and he does not (and he admits his position is not in the Bible).

Time for "Truth" is a very dishonest organization. --Eli Caldwell

John Davis contradicting himself

This is very contradictory.

"So what are you waiting for? Get saved TODAY! Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive you of all your sins RIGHT NOW & come & save you. You need to do this from your heart NOT from your head - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10v9)
--John Davis http://www.timefortruth.co.uk/the-gospel/

"If you haven't asked JESUS CHRIST to forgive your sin & come & save you, you're NOT saved; for HE ALONE is the ONLY ONE who can save you!
(John Davis, TFT News Issue 28) http://www.timefortruth.co.uk/tft-newsletters/

"There is nothing in the Scriptures that says you have to pray to get saved!
(Time for Truth News! Issue 72 July-October 2014)
http://www.timefortruth.co.uk/content/pages/documents/1418483471.pdf

"These HERETICS tell you that by praying the sinner’s prayer you won’t get saved!
TfT News issue 77 http://www.timefortruth.co.uk/content/pages/documents/1454797861.pdf

So John Davis teaches that you "need to" pray a prayer, "if you haven't...you're not saved", and you are a "heretic" if you believe that praying the sinner's prayer won't get you saved.

Yet "There is nothing in the Scriptures that says you have to pray to get saved!" That makes no sense.

At least he recognizes that "there is nothing in the Scripture" that supports his false gospel.

Jame$ White NA$B critical con$ultant

James R. White was a critical con$ultant for the New American $tandard Bible 1995 Update revision.
http://www.lockman.org/nasb/nasbprin.php

James R. White was the author of the anti-KJB book The King James Only Controversy. Guess what year it came out? Yep, 1995.

Why would anyone trust what James White has to say about bible versions and the inspiration of the KJB when he is totally bia$ed! Nobody knew who this guy was until he published his book attacking the King James Bible believing position, then "Bible" (LOL) Colleges started recommending his book and he got famous. Totally bia$ed! Huge conflict of intere$t.

KJB believers do not make money off the KJB, our position is based on the facts and not our wallet or endorsements. [Believing the Bible in our hands is totally pure and without error does not help us make money or win us any special recognition from anybody]
