Holy Spirit indwelling

ACTS 2:1-4: The baptism with the Holy Ghost given without works.

Acts 2:38-45: Baptism with the Holy Ghost promised to those who repent, be baptized, and sell all.

ACTS 8:14-17: Water baptism not enough for receiving the baptism with the Holy Ghost, had to have apostles lay hands on them.

ACTS 9:17: Aninias laid hands on Paul for him to be baptized with the Holy Ghost, before water baptism.

ACTS 10:43-48: Gentiles baptized with the Hoy Ghost without works but by the hearing of faith.

ACTS 19:1-7: Baptized disciples of John had to have Paul lay hands on them in order to be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
.
It is important to note that being "baptized with the Holy Ghost" (Matt. 3:11) is done by Christ in order for the recipient to have POWER for signs such as tongues/prophecy/healing according to Acts 1:8, 2:1-6. This baptism with the Holy Ghost onto a person by Christ is according to prophecy (Joel 2, Acts 2:16-21). This (or something similar) occurred in the Old Testament many times (Judges 3:10, 6:34, 11:29, 13:25, 14:6, 14:19, 15:14, 1 Samuel 10:6-10, 11:6, etc.) but it was not permanent in the OT (1 Sam. 16:14, Ps. 51:11).
.
In the New Testament after the dispensation of grace was revealed, along with the gospel of the grace of God, believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit until the rapture. (Eph. 1:13-14, Eph. 4:30, 2 Cor. 1:22) This is not a baptism but rather a seal of God, one that comforts and opens the believers eyes to spiritual truth in the word of God (Rom. 8:11, 1 Cor. 2:10-14, Eph. 6:17). According to Romans 8:1-15 and Gal. 4:6 the indwelling of the Holy Spirit makes us adopted as sons of God.
.
Then there is the baptism done by the Spirit with the believer into Christ for the purpose of joining the believer to Christ making them one spirit and one body (Eph. 5:22-32, 1 Cor. 6:15-17, 1 Cor. 12:12-13, Col. 2:10-14, Rom. 6:3-4, Gal. 3:26-28, Eph. 4:5, Eph. 1:22-23, Eph. 4:16). This baptism is an "operation of God" and is part of the "unity of the Spirit" in the "church which is his body" (Eph. 1:22-23, 2:11-22, 3:1-9, 4:1-6).
.
It is important to recognize the differences in these different works involving the Holy Spirit. The baptism with the Holy Ghost has ceased since nobody has the sign gifts any more (1 Cor. 1:22, 13:8-12).
