Popular misquotations

Most people think that Isaiah 11:6 says that "the lion shall lie down with the lamb". It does not say that....

Isaiah 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Most people think that 2 Corinthians 5:8 says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". It does not say that....

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

There is also no book in the Bible titled "Revelations". It is just 'Revelation'. 

There is also no verse in the Bible that says Saul's armor was "too big" for David. The reason David gave for not wearing the armor was that he had not "proved it".

1 Samuel 17:38-39 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

Most people also think that 1 Corinthians 11:1-2 says that there are "two ordinances" for the church to keep. It doesn't say that....

1 Corinthians 11:2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

There are also no verses that say.....

the local church is "the Lord's house"

that Sunday is "the Lord's day"

that we should take up a collection every Sunday 

that John was sent to Patmos as a prisoner

that people in the OT looked forward to the cross of Christ

water baptism is administered by the church to make you a member

that Paul was one of the 12 apostles and Matthias was a mistake

that "wine" was being drunk at the Lord's supper

And there are many other popular Bible misquotations. 

Thinking things through before you say them is a lost art today, but before you attempt to quote Bible and play theologian, try to make sure your quotes are actually in the Bible.
