Did Christ "challenge" the word of God?

The Message version of Matthew 5:43-44 "You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst."

The King James Bible says "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"

The Message version is clearly a very bad error, according to it, Christ "challenged" the word of God. What Christ really did was make a change in dispensation, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom and New Covenant version of the Law (Heb. 7:12, 8:8-13, 10:16-17) rather than the Mosaic law.

The word "challenge" means:

"a call or summons to engage in any contest"

"something that by its nature or character serves as a call to battle"

"a call to fight, as a battle, a duel, etc."

"to call in question"

According to The Message, Christ called into question His own word and fought against it. Very ridiculous. Stick to the preserved word of God given by inspiration, the King James Bible.
