I have recently heard someone say that Jesus burned in hell after He laid down His life, the proof text used was Acts 2:47-31.
Acts 2:
[27] Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
[28] Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
[29]
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David,
that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this
day.
[30] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had
sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to
the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
[31]
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his
soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
I do believe that the Lord went to hell, but I believe that He preached there, not that He burned there.
1 Peter 3:
[18] For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for
the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the
flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
[19] By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
Secondly, "hell" is not just a place of punishment. There are two sections to hell, one is a paradise where Old Testament saints went and the other is a place of torment for the unsaved.....
Matthew 12:
[39] But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous
generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it,
but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
[40] For as Jonas was
three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of
man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Luke 16:
[22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried
by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was
buried;
[23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
[24]
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send
Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my
tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
[25] But Abraham
said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good
things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and
thou art tormented.
[26] And beside all this, between us and
you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from
hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from
thence.
Luke 23:
[42] And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
[43] And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
There is no verse in the Bible that says the Lord burned in hell.
