Hoss vs Finnel: Baptism into water or baptism into Christ?

Here is a dispute between Steve Finnel and myself. Mr. Finnel left a comment on one of my posts saying that water baptism is a requirement for salvation and he left me his blog link. He calls himself a "keyboard evangelist" and he knows nothing about the authority of the King James Bible nor rightly dividing the word of truth.

My messages in green font, Mr. Finnel's in red. --Eli "Hoss" Caldwell

Mr. Finnel,

I looked at your blog some today....I see you love to quote Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, and Galatians 3:27. (that seems to be the extent of your "proof texts")

I noticed your post on being baptized into Christ. You made a very sad and naïve error.

Baptism into Christ is NOT baptism into water...why? Because Christ is not water.

BAPTISM INTO CHRIST IS DONE BY THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH THE FAITH OF THE OPERATON OF GOD.

1 Corinthians 12:
[12] For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
[13] For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit
.

Colossians 2:
[10] And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
[11] In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
[12] Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead
.

You failed to even mention these passages of scripture. You cannot talk about baptism into Christ without talking about 1 Corinthians 12:13. You are a deceiver. You quoted passages about water baptism and then pretended like that was the same thing as baptism into Christ. Is Christ a tank of water? NO! So baptism into water cannot be baptism into Christ.

Also, I noticed that you lied in at least one of your posts. You said that believing was a work because it was something we do, not God. HOWEVER, you plainly lied about this. The Bible plainly excludes believing from being a work.

Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

I realize that since you are trusting your own works for salvation that you are lost and "spiritually discerned" (1 Cor. 2:14), but please....you would have to be an idiot to think that believing was a work in light of Romans 4:5.

I also noticed that you like to quote many different CORRUPT "bibles", which means you do not have ONE final authority--you're like a kid in a candy store that can't make up his mind as to what he wants.

Also, your exposition of Ephesians 5 is utterly pathetic. The word "baptism" is not found anywhere in the chapter. Paul simply said that the word of God cleanses the church--he figuratively called this a "washing of water", BUT IT IS "BY THE WORD".

Mr. Finnel, do me a favor answer these questions:

1.) When do we receive the Holy Spirit?
2.) When do receive imputed righteousness?
3.) How can baptism into water be the same as baptism into Christ, since Christ is not water?
4.) Does water baptism put away the filth of the flesh?
5) Is water baptism a work?
6.) Are we made perfect by the flesh?
7.) How do we receive Christ?
8.) How come you never quote 1 Corinthians 12:13 when talking about baptism into Christ?
9.) Is salvation a free gift?
10.) How come you use "bibles" that call Joseph the father of Christ and attack His deity?
11.) How come you do not have a final authority, one bible that you accept as the perfect word of God?

Can you answer those? --Eli "Hoss" Caldwell

RE: Steve Finnel

Hoss, you have (to) honestly be seeking God's truth to find it. Prayer is essential . In Christ Steve

 RE: Hoss

Buddy, I am not seeking God's truth....I ALREADY HAVE IT. Christ saves you as you are, He does not say "go wash up first".

Acts 13:38-39
Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. (NO WATER THERE)

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (NO WATER THERE)

Acts 16:30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (NO "REPENT AND BE BUPTIZED" THERE)

Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: (NO WATER THERE)

1 Corinthians 1:17a, 21b
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel.....it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. (NO WATER BUPTISM THERE)

Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (NO WATER THERE)

2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, (NO WATER THERE)

Ephesians 2:
[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast
. (NO WATER THERE)

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. (NO WATER THERE)

Romans 4:5  But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. (NO WATER THERE)

Titus 3:4-7
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (NO WATER THERE)

Mr. Finnel, I am trying to show you the error of your baptismal regeneration heresy. I will answer the questions for you, with SCRIPTURE.

1.) When do we receive the Holy Spirit?

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Galatians 3:
[1] O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
[2] This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
[3] Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Acts 15:
[7] And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
[8] And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
[9] And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
[10] Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
[11] But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

2.) When do receive imputed righteousness?

Romans 4:
[1] What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
[2] For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
[3] For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
[4] Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
[5] But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Romans 4:
[24] But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
[25] Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Philippians 3:
[8] Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
[9] And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

3.) How can baptism into water be the same as baptism into Christ, since Christ is not water?

They are not the same. Baptism into water is baptism into water. Baptism into Christ is the Holy Spirit putting you in Christ through the faith of the operation of God.

1 Corinthians 12:
[12] For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
[13] For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Colossians 2:
[10] And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
[11] In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
[12] Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

4.) Does water baptism put away the filth of the flesh?

1 Peter 3:21 plainly states that water baptism only saves you in a "like figure", if it saves you in a life figure than that is not your REAL salvation, it is FIGURATIVE. Then it plainly states that it does not put away the filth of our flesh, our sins, but is the answer of a good conscience toward God. (which you cannot have if you are lost--Titus 1:15)

5) Is water baptism a work?

Yes.
6.) Are we made perfect by the flesh?

No.

Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

7.) How do we receive Christ?

Galatians 2:
[16] Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
[17] But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
[18] For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
[19] For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
[20] I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
[21] I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
8.) How come you never quote 1 Corinthians 12:13 when talking about baptism into Christ?

Because it exposes the baptismal regeneration heresy as completely FALSE.

9.) Is salvation a free gift?

Yes.

Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Romans 5:
[15] But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
[16] And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
[17] For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
[18] Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life
.

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Ephesians 2:

[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast
.

10.) How come you use "bibles" that call Joseph the father of Christ and attack His deity?

(From my post, "Perversions, Part 2")

Why would anyone use a PERVERSION of the word of God instead of God perfectly preserved word of God, the King James Bible? Any saved person will be able to look at these perversions and be able to discern that the King James Bible is the pure word of God, not the corrupt modern versions that are based on the Egyptian Greek manuscripts.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

John 8:
[43] Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
[44] Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
[45] And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
[46] Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
[47] He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God
.
John 10:1-5, 26-27
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.....But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

John 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

1 Corinthians 2:
[9] But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
[10] But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
[11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
[12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
[13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
[14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned
.

11.) How come you do not have a final authority, one bible that you accept as the perfect word of God?

Because it allows you to pick and choose which verses/readings you like from each version rather than being subject to ONE authority. (see answer to #10)
