1. What do you believe about the Bible?

1. What do you believe about the Bible?

I believe that the Bible (66 books, Old and New Testaments) is the divinely inspired word of God. Inspiration is described in Job 32:8 and 2 Peter 1.

Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

2 Peter 1:
[20] Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
[21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost
.

The Bible is not man's writing, it is the writing of "the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth". Man was simply the tool that God used in putting His words on paper. When we read a book by Mark Twain we do not praise the publisher for printing his book, the printers were merely a tool in transmitting the work of the actual author. Likewise we do not praise Moses for writing the "Pentateuch" because he was only the tool in transmitting those words, it was God that gave Moses "inspiration" and "understanding" to write down those words (Job 32:8). The transmitters of scripture were wicked sinners and reading their writings would not be worth our time. They were murders and adulterers (Exod 2:12, 2 Sam. 11:4). If the Bible were not God's words than we should not bother reading it.

Further, the Bible is not a piece of "classic literature" and it is not an example of "beautiful poetry"......it is ABOVE those things. It is the inspired words of God Almighty. Psalms 138:2 says "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name." God has magnified His word above His own name....that is some rather outstanding magnification in light of Philippians 2:9, "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him [Christ], and given him a name which is above every name".

As servants of God it is our duty to devote our time to the word of God. In fact, the longest chapter in the Bible (Psalms 119) is a chapter talking about the word of God. Our love for the word of God should make it our meditation all the day.

Psalms 119:97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

Psalms 119:140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

We are commanded to read and study this Holy Book. If we do not study we will not be approved by God at the judgement seat of Christ.

1 Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

When we study our Bible, it will profit our walk in Christ.

2 Timothy 3:
[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works
.

However, the Bible will only effectually work in those that are truly saved Christians that have believed the gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-4).

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
