Is "Easter" in Acts 12:4 a mistranslation? Below is correspondence I had with a brother that I shared Dr. Gipp's video with.

What a weird explanation...I am first generation Portuguese speaking...in Portuguese pascha is translated páscoa and in this context it refers to what in America it is called "Easter"....a Babylonian/Roman pagan tradition (though Christians don't celebrate it as such.) At least in Portuguese the most accurate translation (like KJV) translates pascha accurately. Why didn't the KJV translators do the same???? They did in the other 28 instances!
And by the way, this is not a best Acts 12:4 "defense," but the defense of the term "Easter." This passage if translated accurately needs no defense!!!! And why all of this zeal to defend the term Easter??? And wow the amen, amen crowed ...
Adversaries??? WOW!!!! I am glad God doesn't hold the KJV ONLY view!!!! Unbelievable! His prayer for God to give him an excuse for the translators use of the word "Easter."
What a waste of time...meanwhile the lost are dying, the needy neglected etc.

I know the KJB issue sometimes seems like a "side issue" when there are lost people that need the gospel. But we are told to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24) and God's words are the truth (John 17:17). Without God's words we cannot worship Him properly.
As for Acts 12:4, here is a quote from a message I sent someone awhile back.
"It is utterly impossible to defend "Passover" in Acts 12:4 (ESV, NIV, GB, NASV, etc.). That would create a contradiction in the Bible. It is clear from verse 3 "then were the days of unleavened bread" that Peter was arrested during the days of unleavened bread which occur Abib 15-21 (Lev. 23:4-5) which is AFTER the Passover on Abib 14, the only possibility left is Easter. Also, the Luther Bible's use of "Easter" in place of "Passover" is relevant because it could mean that the words were synonymous at that time. "
Also, it is not accurate to say that pascha (Πάσχα) can't be translated "Easter". There is no Greek word for "Easter" but pascha has always been the word used. Pascha had two meanings at the time, to the pagans it meant "Easter" and to the Jews it meant "Passover". The Greeks to this day use "pascha" for "Easter". The context of Acts 12:4 proves that "Easter" is the correct English translation. The King James translators were very smart people and they would not have just completely bombed a simple translation of "pascha" I don't think.
Satan and his ministers are active in corrupting God's word (2 Cor. 2:17, 11:14-15) and it is our job to "hold forth the word of life" (Philippians 2:16) and preach, read, study, and teach the pure words of God. I'm afraid I disagree with your statement "This passage if translated accurately needs no defense". It is a fact that God is the creator of the universe and evolution is a lie. Genesis 1:1 does not NEED defense, but Christians SHOULD defend it and HOLD FORTH the word of life. The Bible does not "need" our defense, but true Christians do defend it (Galatians 2:5).
