First off, The subject of the sentence is the Day of the Lord, the revealing of our Savior, as we see in the letter of Revelation. Secondly, the subject is changed during the Pre-Trib teaching, from Christ Jesus to the Anti-Christ. This is a manipulation of the text and is a misinterpretation of the verses. The subject from verses 1-6 is Christ Jesus. The question that needs to be asked is, why is the subject changed to the Anti-Christ?

Paul writes there are two things holding back the "Day of the Lord AND our being gathered to him: we pick up in verse 3: "Don't let anyone deceive you, in any way, for that day will not come, until the rebellion (or apostasy), occur AND the man of lawlessness (son of perdition), is revealed, the man doomed to destruction," he goes on to describe the man of lawlessness to clarify who he, the son of perdition, is in verse 4. Thus, in verses 5-6, he goes on to write, "Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? And now you know what is holding him (Jesus), back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time."

So the question people need to ask is, "why is there taught a change in the subject when the focus is on the Day of the Lord, or the coming of Christ? Then for the rest of the verses (7-12), speaks of the Anti-Christ, his revealing, destruction, and the strong delusion people will believe. This also brings into question the usage of the other Bible scriptures.

There is another question that needs to be asked as well: Are there other Bible passages which speak of Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, let alone the Church, as holding back the Anti-Christ?

If there is no congruency in Scriptures regarding a teaching, then the teaching is to be called into question, not Scriptures, especially if we're saying the Bible is infallible. 2 Timothy 2:14-3:5, Acts 17:11.
